If you are from a remote community, you can apply for subsidised provided accommodation in Brisbane with live-in ‘aunt and uncle’ support for the duration of the program.

Where are the positions located?
The 18 week program is based in Brisbane. Once you begin employment with Thiess, you will be offered a position that can be located on various Thiess sites around Australia. Visit our projects to see where Thiess can take you.

Eligibility
If you’re an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander looking to try your hand at a trade, or gain entry to the resources and construction industry, then this program is for you. You’ll be solving problems and dealing with people, so you should have some interest in developing your maths and communication skills. You also need to work well in a team and be dedicated to working safely.

Applicants must be over 16-years-old.

The process of applying for the indigenous program goes like this:

• We post openings on our Careers pages as soon as they become available
• You complete an online application form
• We contact you via phone, email or letter to advise the outcome
• The recruitment process begins

The Recruitment Process

There are two intakes for the course each year (one for each half of the year).

• Your application will be acknowledged. Note that incomplete applications will not be considered.
• If you progress to the next stage, you will then be invited to attend a Recruitment Day.
• The Recruitment Day includes receiving more information about the positions available, a one on one interview, group activities and testing.
• If successful from the Recruitment Day, further assessment is required such as pre-employment medical which includes drug and alcohol testing.
• The next step is checking references you've provided in your application. Professional referees will usually be previous supervisors, managers or teachers who've observed your abilities in the work or school environment.
• If successful, you will be made a verbal offer explaining in detail what is being offered.
• If you verbally accept the offer, you'll receive a formal letter of offer. This is to be signed and returned to us to confirm your employment.
