Douglas Thompson was appointed as Thiess’ Chief Executive Officer in August 2017. He brings more than 20 years’ global experience in the resources industry. Prior to being appointed CEO, Douglas held a number of executive positions with CPB, Thiess and Goldfields Limited, giving him extensive expertise spanning operations, technical, client value, commercial and strategy. As a long-standing advocate for the mining industry, Douglas is passionate about industry development and sustainability. He is a board member of the Queensland Resources Council, an AusIMM Fellow (FAusIMM), a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers Australia (FIEAust) and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mining) with Honours and a National Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and has completed an International Executive Development Program with the University of Cambridge and the University of Witwatersrand.
Chief Financial Officer
Craig has more than 28 years' experience in chartered accounting and contracting. He is a Fellow to the Chartered Accountants, Australia and New Zealand and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). He holds a Bachelor of Business from the Queensland University of Technology and has completed the AICD International Directors' Course as well as CFO Executive Education at Wharton. For over 21 years, Craig has held senior positions including the role of Finance Director, APAC and Africa for a global EPCM provider. During his time at Thiess, he has held senior finance, commercial and operational positions including the roles of Executive General Manager, Assets and General Manager Finance and Commercial for Thiess' Australian Mining operations. Craig has been Thiess' Chief Financial Officer since August 2016 and today holds CFO financial leadership accountability across the CIMIC mining operating companies of Thiess, FleetCo and Sedgman. He is renowned for his strong leadership, commercial acumen and ability to link both commercial and operational drivers to achieve improved business outcomes.
General Counsel & Company Secretary
Trish has more than 20 years’ experience providing legal advice to mining and construction industries. She joined Thiess in 2005 and was appointed General Counsel and Company Secretary in 2014. Trish is responsible for advising in the areas of legal, ethical and compliance issues across the business while managing a global legal team. Graduating with honours in law from the Queensland University of Technology, Trish trained at premier law firms Mallesons and Pinsent Masons in Australia and Ireland as well as serving as a Judge’s Associate in the Federal Court of Australia. Her experience drives a relationship focused approach, delivering best for business outcomes with integrity.
Executive General Manager Australia & Pacific
Shaun was appointed Executive General Manager Australia & Pacific in September 2020 and brings more than 25 years’ global mining experience spanning operational leadership, business improvement and strategy, technology and innovation, and project program management. Having previously led our Technical Services team, Shaun successfully standardised technical and business planning processes, implemented project and tender pipeline management and achieved business and team effectiveness improvement through the implementation of structured processes and systems. Shaun is a people-orientated leader who believes that the safety and wellbeing of our people is integral to business success. He is also committed to developing collaborative, long-term client relationships to deliver operational excellence at our projects. Shaun holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Witwatersrand, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the University of Cape Town and has completed an Advanced Executive Development Program at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University in the USA.
Executive General Manager Asia
Cluny joined Thiess in March 2018 and leads Thiess’ operations and strategy for Indonesia & Mongolia. An experienced global executive, he brings with him more than 25 years of experience in mining and construction across five continents. He has a proven track record in delivering stakeholder value, built upon his deep operational expertise, extensive international market insight and commercial acumen. Cluny drives a market commitment to long-term business relationships and a team commitment to inclusive leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Memorial University of Newfoundland and has completed Senior Executive Programs at INSEAD and Columbia University.
Executive General Manager Americas
Darrell was appointed Executive General Manager Americas in January 2020. A credentialled civil and environmental engineer, Darrell brings with him more than 25 years’ experience in mine planning, plant and process. He has led global teams across mining and civil infrastructure projects and material handling environments and building operations into new markets. Fluent in Chilean Spanish, Darrell is an experienced executive with strong leadership in both sales and operations, managing people and projects in North America, South America, Australia, Indonesia and Europe. His success as a global leader is built on his focused leadership style that empowers individuals and teams, while enabling enhanced collaboration and decision making for maximum delivery. Darrell holds a Bachelor of Science from Utah State University and Weber State University.
Executive General Manager Strategy, Governance & Transformation
Abdul leads the Strategy, Governance & Transformation team, driving our strategic agenda and guiding how Thiess designs new services, collaborates on market opportunities, develops innovations and expands our operational footprint. Since joining CIMIC Group 18 years ago, Abdul has held a number of leadership positions including Executive General Manager Australia & Pacific at Thiess where he led a performance-driven culture and commitment to collaborative, long-term client relationships. Prior to that he was MD/CEO with Habtoor Leighton Group Contractors. Abdul’s national and international experience gives him a strong understanding of the diverse demands of establishing and managing contracts and associated corporate governance in a variety of country contexts. With a background in law and project management , and a proven ability to ensure strong and accountable governance for projects and organisations, Abdul’s diverse capability is an asset to Thiess’ growing business. He holds a Bachelor and Master of Science (Civil Engineering) and post-graduate qualifications in Law from Australia and the United States of America.

Mark has a wealth of strategic and operational health and safety expertise, fine-tuned over more than 25 years in the construction, mining, energy and services sectors. A passionate advocate of everyone safe everyday, Mark drives a safety culture of accountability through clearly defined lead indicators, modelling expected behaviour, and developing innovative education programs for senior executives, site leadership teams and front-line employees. His proactive leadership style empowers teams and workforces to deliver transformational change in the way tasks are approached both individually and collectively. Mark is a member of the Minerals Councils of Australia Health and Safety Committee and holds credentials in System Safety Accident Investigation and post-graduate qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety.
Anthony De Domenico
Executive General Manager Assets
Anthony leads Thiess’ Assets team which provides solutions to our projects, including whole of life cycle management, governance, planning, reliability and engineering and operations support. Since joining CIMIC Group in 2002, Anthony has held multiple cross functional senior leadership positions. Most recently, he led the Thiess' Strategy and Growth department, focusing on global diversification. Prior to that he was instrumental in the development of Thiess’ dry hire business, FleetCo, achieving rapid growth to advance the business in Australia and set the foundation for global expansion. Anthony is known for driving business outcomes that provide value for clients and projects while building high-performing teams. He pairs operational expertise gathered over 16 years’ mining with his strategic capability, developed through a broad experience in Australia and overseas. Anthony holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Hons) and an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA).
Executive General Manager People, Capability & Communication
Clinton was appointed Executive General Manager People, Capability & Communication (Acting) in March 2020 and accepted the permanent position in December 2020. He has held various leadership positions within Thiess, most recently as General Manager People & Capability Global Operations. As an experienced people and talent management professional, Clinton is passionate about creating an engaged and productive workforce culture. His proven ability to deliver excellence for our clients and projects stems from his extensive industry expertise across industrial relations, remuneration and benefits, performance management, resourcing and talent development. Clinton is committed to delivering exceptional organisational outcomes by empowering people through meaningful career development opportunities. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Industrial Relations/Human Resource Management) and a Bachelor of Behavioral Science (Interpersonal Communication/Group Facilitation) from Griffith University.
Executive General Manager Technical Services (Acting)
Grant was appointed Executive General Manager Technical Services (Acting) in September 2020. He brings more than 25 years’ experience in engineering from across the global mining industry. Grant has held various leadership positions within Thiess, most recently as General Manager Pre-Contracts. With technical oversight across mine planning, geology, geotechnical, hydrology, surveying and life-of-mine optimisation studies, he believes technical excellence is critical to delivering successful and viable mining operations. As a collaborative and capable leader, Grant empowers his team to develop efficient, best-practice and innovative technical solutions to deliver greater client value. Drawing on his operational and management capabilities, Grant works with Thiess’ global team to identify unexplored opportunities and develops optimised solutions to provide certainty for our clients and their operations. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Civil (class IIA Hons) from James Cook University.
