  • Michael Wright

    Michael Wright

    Executive Chair and Chief Executive Officer
    Michael Wright was appointed Executive Chair of Thiess in February 2020 and Chief Executive Officer in July 2021. Michael has over 30 years’ experience across the resources & industrial industries in Australia, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Prior to being appointed to the joint role of Executive Chair and CEO of Thiess, Michael was the CEO of ASX listed CIMIC Group, responsible for leading Sedgman, UGL, CPB Contractors, Leighton Asia and Thiess. He joined Thiess in 1998, starting as a Project Manager, and has held leadership and operational roles in the mining, construction and services sector, giving him expertise across operations, technical, commercial and strategy.  

    Michael is a highly regarded and innovative leader focused on delivering value to clients and inspiring operational excellence by building strong, safe and performance-driven teams. He serves as a Director of the Minerals Council of Australia and the Sustainable Minerals Institute. 

    He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Civil from the University of Sydney and a Master of Engineering Science from the University of New South Wales.
  • Craig Morton

    Chief Financial Officer
    Craig has more than 28 years' experience in chartered accounting and contracting. For over 21 years, Craig has held senior positions including the role of Finance Director, APAC and Africa for a global EPCM provider. During his time at Thiess, he has held senior finance, commercial and operational positions including the roles of Executive General Manager, Assets and General Manager Finance and Commercial for Thiess' Australian Mining operations.

    Craig has been Thiess' Chief Financial Officer since August 2016 and today holds CFO financial leadership accountability across the CIMIC mining operating companies of Thiess, FleetCo and Sedgman. He is renowned for his strong leadership, commercial acumen and ability to link both commercial and operational drivers to achieve improved business outcomes.

    He is a Fellow to the Chartered Accountants, Australia and New Zealand and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). Craig holds a Bachelor of Business from the Queensland University of Technology and has completed the AICD International Directors' Course as well as CFO Executive Education at Wharton.
  • Trish Russell

    General Counsel & Company Secretary
    Trish has more than 23 years’ experience providing legal, ethical, commercial, risk and governance advice to mining and construction industries. She joined Thiess in 2005 and was appointed General Counsel and Company Secretary in 2014. Her experience drives a relationship focused approach, delivering best for business outcomes with integrity and robust governance. 

    Graduating with honours in law from the Queensland University of Technology, Trish trained at King Wood Mallesons and Pinsent Masons in Australia and Ireland, as well as serving as a Judge’s Associate in the Federal Court of Australia.  
  • Shameelta Pratap

    Group Executive Transformation, People & Communication
    Shameelta brings extensive experience managing large-scale business transformation, ensuring organisations are future fit for tomorrow. She has over 20-years’ experience working in executive leadership teams across some of the world’s leading construction, engineering and mining companies.

    A values-based leader, Shameelta demonstrates a high level of personal commitment, professionalism and integrity in all she does. She believes strong leadership inspires others to excel. With a reputation as a dynamic, respected and results driven leader, she has held senior business roles ranging from building a start-up venture, through to creating cultures of business excellence.

    In her role at Thiess, Shameelta leads the Transformation, People and Communication function, responsible for positioning our business for an evolving market. Putting people at the core, she ensures our people are enabled as drivers of change by developing the skills, culture and ambition required to support Thiess through this transformation and into the future.
  • Spencer Jose

    Executive General Manager Australia West; Assets (acting)
    Spencer brings more than 20 years’ experience across the mining, construction, technology and services industry. He joined Thiess in 2007 and has held a number of senior operational and leadership positions. Most recently he was appointed Group Executive - Assets in May 2022.

    Spencer's strong and collaborative leadership style, promotes project and operational management excellence, driving greater value outcomes for our clients. He drives best-for-business outcomes by developing strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, suppliers and subcontractors and is a strong advocate for developing people.

    Prior to his current role, Spencer was the Executive General Manager Asia and Africa and served as Executive Chairman of the Majwe Mining Joint Venture in Africa. He also served as General Manager Mining Western Australia and South Australia where he was instrumental in driving the expansion of Thiess’ underground operations.

    Before joining Thiess Spencer was GM – Western Australia at Dimension Data, where he led both the sales and engineering teams to deliver IT integration and software services for several multinational organisations, across various industry sectors. Spencer has also served in the Royal Australian Navy as a Submariner, working with advanced technology used for electronic warfare and signals intelligence. He holds a certificate of Applied Science from the Australian Navy and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
  • Cluny Randell

    Executive General Manager Australia East (acting); Mongolia
    Cluny joined Thiess in March 2018 and leads Thiess’ operations and strategy for Indonesia & Mongolia. An experienced global executive, he brings with him more than 25 years of experience in mining and construction across five continents. He has a proven track record in delivering stakeholder value, built upon his deep operational expertise, extensive international market insight and commercial acumen. Cluny drives a market commitment to long-term business relationships and a team commitment to inclusive leadership.

    He holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Memorial University of Newfoundland and has completed Senior Executive Programs at INSEAD and Columbia University.
  • Darrell White

    Executive General Manager Americas
    Darrell was appointed Executive General Manager Americas in January 2020. A credentialled civil and environmental engineer, Darrell brings with him more than 25 years’ experience in mine planning, plant and process. He has led global teams across mining and civil infrastructure projects and material handling environments and building operations into new markets. Fluent in Chilean Spanish, Darrell is an experienced executive with strong leadership in both sales and operations, managing people and projects in North America, South America, Australia, Indonesia and Europe. His success as a global leader is built on his focused leadership style that empowers individuals and teams, while enabling enhanced collaboration and decision making for maximum delivery.

    Darrell holds a Bachelor of Science from Utah State University and Weber State University.
  • Abdul Jarrah

    Group Executive Growth & Strategy
    Abdul leads the Growth & Strategy team, driving our strategic agenda and guiding how Thiess designs new services, collaborates on market opportunities, develops innovations and expands our operational footprint. Since joining CIMIC Group 18 years ago, Abdul has held a number of leadership positions including Executive General Manager Australia & Pacific at Thiess where he led a performance-driven culture and commitment to collaborative, long-term client relationships. Prior to that he was MD/CEO with Habtoor Leighton Group Contractors. Abdul’s national and international experience gives him a strong understanding of the diverse demands of establishing and managing contracts and associated corporate governance in a variety of country contexts. With a background in law and project management, and a proven ability to ensure strong and accountable governance for projects and organisations, Abdul’s diverse capability is an asset to Thiess’ growing business.

    He holds a Bachelor and Master of Science (Civil Engineering) and post-graduate qualifications in Law from Australia and the United States of America.
