For Westmead, we developed a new form of contract, which remains a unique model for the delivery of health facilities within a fully-functioning hospital. The Western Integrated Network Partner concept allowed us to manage the project, develop the design and documentation, and construct the works in various stages.
It was built on the principles of partnership, early warning of issues and the resolution of financial matters ‘by agreement’. The contract also required Thiess to warrant the project cost for each milestone when the developed design was at a stage where it could be effectively priced.
The project consisted of the redevelopment of a number of departments and extensive upgrade of the hospital's engineering plant and services was required. One of the key aspects of the project was working within and around a fully operational hospital through all constructions phases. In addition to this, a number of departments were temporarily or permanently relocated using the precise "Decant Strategy" to ensure that health services were not interrupted.
Our collaboration model captures in detail the needs of stakeholders and medical practitioners, while building flexibility for the future. This is achieved via our integrated design, construction and facilities management capabilities and partnering approach.
